Course

Electrical and Wiring Basics

Understand electrical concepts, wiring, components and safe working practices.

What you will learn

  • Voltage, current and resistance, explained with real circuits
  • Reading a simple wiring diagram
  • Stripping, terminating and dressing conductors properly
  • Wiring a lighting circuit and a socket outlet
  • What a circuit breaker and an earth actually do
  • Safe isolation — proving dead before you work

Tools you will handle

  • Insulated screwdrivers and side cutters
  • Wire strippers and crimping tools
  • Multimeter and test lamp
  • Voltage tester and proving unit
  • Conduit and trunking tools

By the end of the course

Wire a circuit

Build and test a working lighting circuit on a training board.

Use a multimeter

Measure voltage, continuity and resistance and interpret what you see.

Respect electricity

Understand exactly why safe isolation is not optional.

Safety first

Nobody touches a tool before the induction.

Every learner completes a safety induction on day one and works under supervision throughout. Protective equipment is issued at the start of the course.

  • Safe isolation procedure, practised until it is automatic
  • All learner work is on low-voltage training boards, never live installations
  • Recognising damaged tools and equipment
  • What to do if someone receives a shock

What you go home with

Learners who complete the course and meet the attendance requirement receive an EILA certificate of completion, signed by the principal. Each certificate carries a QR code, so a school, college or employer can verify it instantly.

How you are assessed

Practical work is judged on what you can actually do, not on an exam paper. Your instructor rates each competency as you progress, and those ratings decide whether you are signed off for a certificate.
